    01 / The approach

    The Philosophy of Participation

Happiness isn’t a spectator sport. While traditional entertainment has its place, we believe in the power of Active Engagement.

    The Idea

Moving from listening to, to creating with.

    The Shift

Residents become co-creators of joy, not passive recipients.

    The Result

A measurable boost in social confidence and a healthy desire to learn and connect.

    Science

    Why it Works: The Neuroscience

Music is one of the few activities that engages both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously. This stimulates neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new connections — while triggering a release of dopamine, the brain’s natural feel-good chemical.

    Neuroplasticity

Active music-making strengthens neural pathways, supporting cognitive health and slowing age-related decline in ways passive listening cannot.

    Dopamine

Playing and singing together triggers a natural dopamine release, directly improving mood, motivation, and social bonding between residents.

    The TMOH Edge — HIME

We don’t just play songs. We architect High-Impact Moments of Engagement (HIME) — purposefully designed micro-experiences within each session that maximise the emotional and cognitive benefit for every resident present.

    02 / The instrument

    Why the Ukulele?A Sensory Insight

We chose the ukulele as our primary tool for a reason. It is the world’s most accessible, non-intimidating instrument.

Tactile comfort— Light and easy to hold — ideal for all mobility levels.
Auditory lift— It produces a bright, happy frequency that naturally elevates mood.
The Sweet Spot— Allows for immediate wins in coordination, building confidence from the very first session.
    03 / In practice

    Two Levels of Participation

We partner with your Wellbeing Teams to enhance your existing Life Enrichment calendar — meeting residents exactly where they are, whether they want to simply enjoy the music together or take their first steps as a player.

Zero prep time for your staff. We provide all instruments (ukuleles) and materials — your team simply opens the door.

    Level 1

    Large Group Sing-Along Sessions

A joyful, inclusive session where residents sing together — familiar songs, live accompaniment, and plenty of smiles. No experience needed. Everyone is welcome.

    Level 2

Small Group “Learn to Play Ukulele”

For residents who want to go further. A hands-on session where participants learn to strum their first chords and experience the confidence of making music themselves.

    Recommended Frequency

    What Care Homes Say

“The room came alive from the very first song.”

Frven's Ukulele Happier Music session brought a wonderful energy into our home. Residents who are usually quiet were singing, clapping and smiling throughout. The familiar songs sparked memories and conversations long after the session had ended. It was heartwarming to see so many people participating together.

“More than entertainment. It created genuine connection.”

What impressed me most was how inclusive the programme was. Residents of all abilities could join in, whether by singing, tapping along, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. The ukulele created a light-hearted and uplifting environment that everyone, including our staff, thoroughly enjoyed.

“Residents were still talking about it days later.”

Music has a special way of bringing people together, and Frven understands exactly how to make that happen. Residents were laughing, reminiscing and interacting with one another throughout the session. It felt less like a performance and more like a shared experience.

“A wonderful blend of music, memories and happiness.”

We regularly organise activities, but this programme stood out because of the level of participation. The familiar songs encouraged residents to sing confidently, and many family members commented afterwards on how happy and engaged their loved ones appeared. We would happily welcome Frven back.

“Frven has a natural ability to connect with older people.”

The sing-along session was warm, interactive and full of joy. Seeing residents light up as they recognised songs from their younger years was incredibly moving. It reminded us how powerful music can be in enhancing wellbeing and creating meaningful moments.
